Meet the Mayor – Emlenton

Meet the Mayor Graphic2

In January of this year, Jamie Hunt became the mayor of Emlenton, and he’s excited to help the borough move forward.
Jamie grew up nearby in Slippery Rock and attended college in New Mexico. He then lived in multiple states out west for about 14 years, which included some time in the United States Navy.
When Jamie and his wife decided they would like to move closer to home, they were looking Jamie Huntat houses in Pittsburgh without luck. They eventually stumbled upon a historic building for sale in Emlenton and knew this project would become their home. Jamie, his wife, and their five-year-old daughter have lived in Emlenton for about four years, and continue to work on remodeling their home.
“We had opportunities to live anywhere,” Jamie said. “But we chose Emlenton and we’re proud to be here.”

It took very little time for Jamie to get engaged within the community and he has enjoyed his involvement coordinating the vendors for the Emlenton Summer Fest and assisting in the process of rebuilding Hughes Park. He knew he had a commitment to the town, and was excited to continue this by running for mayor.
Jamie has many plans and ideas for Emlenton and he looks forward to implementing these during his term. He will focus on generating volunteers and community involvement and creating a more active, transformed downtown. He knows the trails and the river are true assets to the region, and hopes to utilize these more to attract visitors, residents, and businesses. Some challenges Jamie sees include the opioid epidemic and blight, and he plans to work with community leaders and organizations to help come up with solutions.
Besides serving as mayor, Jamie is a photographer and teaches part-time for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
“As soon as we moved to Emlenton, we felt welcomed. Everyone always has a helping hand,” said Jamie. “I am grateful to have been elected mayor and I look forward to helping this borough that has become my home.”
